City of Lakes AmeriCorps

 

The City of Lakes AmeriCorps program is a partnership between Minneapolis Community Education, the Minneapolis Public Schools, and other local community organizations.

What is AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps, the domestic Peace Corps, engages more than 40,000 Americans in intensive, results-driven service. AmeriCorps members volunteer for a year and receive an education award that helps finance college or pay back student loans.

Members serving at high school sites are involved with the Check and Connect program to help students succeed in school. Watch this clip for a snapshot on how the program is working.
No MN Taxes on the Ed Award!
On the last day of the 2008 Legislative session, the Omnibus Tax Bill was passed and is destined to be signed by the Governor. The provision affects the tax status of the education award that AmeriCorps members earn while in our program.
